We monitor the Microsoft partner ecosystem, so you don't have to.

This week's edition of Partner1's Microsoft Monday covers a new CSP motion that gives you a door-opener with any SMB account starting Thursday, new Marketplace offerings for software companies and more. The Security Specializations audit model we covered last week is now in effect. We're sharing a subset what our clients are watching this week, DM if you want the deep dive.

Bonus: Partner1's Microsoft Marketplace Assessment helps you benchmark your current marketplace motion against FY27's new co-sell framework in seconds!

NOW: Microsoft expanded Marketplace trials to virtual machines, Dynamics 365, and Power BI offers. Marketplace trials were previously most robust for SaaS offers. Microsoft announced expanded trial capabilities covering SaaS in all billing models (metered, per-user, flat-rate), virtual machines, Dynamics 365, and Power BI along with flexible durations and deeper conversion analytics. For software development companies with any of those offer types, trials are now a go-to-market lever.

August 1: Microsoft is giving CSP partners a free Copilot trial they can hand to any SMB customer: Starting August 1, CSP partners can provision a free 25-user, 30-day Microsoft 365 Copilot Business trial directly through CSP New Commerce. The program is called Copilot in 30. Microsoft designed it as a partner-led adoption experience for small and medium businesses where partners control the trial provisioning, run the structured 30-day program with the customer, and handle the conversion conversation at the end. The promo on Copilot Business at $15 USD per user through December already reduced friction on conversion and now the top of the funnel is also addressable.

NOW: FY27 incentives are live: Some key changes from FY26 : the priority workload list expanded to include databases, Fabric, Foundry, GitHub, and agentic AI. There are new engagement tracks for digital sovereignty and Sentinel. Microsoft added an SMB pre-sales engagement and a competitive database migration conversion bonus, both are net-new earning paths.

NOW: Microsoft Foundry added Agent Optimizer, Foundry Local 1.2, and GPT-5.2 content understanding. Several Foundry updates came out this week. Agent Optimizer is now in preview inside Foundry Agent Service, it automatically evaluates hosted agents against pass/fail criteria and generates ranked improvements to prompts, skills, tool descriptions, and model choices.

Foundry Local 1.2 adds multilingual live transcription, Linux ARM64 support, Windows ML acceleration, and an Azure Local preview for disconnected or regulated environments. If you have clients in healthcare, government, or financial services who've been skeptical about cloud-hosted inference for privacy-sensitive workloads, Foundry Local now gives you a credible on-device or edge answer. Azure Content Understanding added support for GPT-5.2 and now ingests email, legacy Office, and OpenDocument formats, relevant for any client with large document processing workflows currently running on GPT-4.x.

Partners who are building AI practices around Foundry now have materially more to offer than they did two weeks ago.

The bigger picture

The moves this week are all about reducing friction at different points in the funnel. Free trials for CSP partners, expanded Marketplace trials for ISVs, Agent Optimizer that closes the gap between pilot and production and FY27 incentive paths designed to reward competitive wins. Microsoft is trying to speed up the shift from AI experimentation to operational AI, and they're building the partner toolkit and rewards to match.

The implication for partner leaders is that differentiation in FY27 will come from being the firm that actually moves customers through the trial, build, production deployment and consumption rather than just having a Copilot demo or a Marketplace listing.

Take the Microsoft Marketplace Assessment to ensure your business is FY27-optimized and you're not leaving a single opportunity on the table.
